FUNERAL AND MORTALITY SCHEME

BRANCH IMPLEMENTS

FUNERAL AND MORTALITY SCHEME

The Queensland Branch will be implementing a Funeral and Mortality Benefit Scheme which we hope will provide support to our members or their spouse upon the death of the member or spouse.  The Branch has funded the scheme out of its existing income and we are aware that the payment is not a large amount of money.  Member’s main mortality benefits will still come from the death benefits associated with his/her superannuation fund.  This benefit is targeted at helping the member or their spouse in the immediate period after the death occurs of a partner.

I have printed a full copy of the Rules of the Funeral and Mortality Scheme so that members can understand their entitlements.  The Branch will administer the  scheme strictly in accordance with the Rules as approved by the Queensland Branch Executive as printed below.  The benefit is strictly only available to members who were financial at the time of their death and is not available to life members or members who have left the Union or are in arrears.

The commencement date of 1 July 2008 will also be strictly adhered to.  I am sure members will join me in congratulating the Queensland Branch Committee of Management on implementing this benefit for members.
